The year 5/6 class are excited about creating their museum display.

This term the year 5/6 students are all excited about working towards creating their museum exhibit. The exhibits are going to be a culmination of different areas that we are learning about.

In HASS we are learning about the significance of Federation in our Australian history that brought all the individual colonies together under one nation. Was this a good thing or a bad thing? We will need to form our own opinion and justify this. In our museum, you will be able to see exhibits of significant events or key people that played important roles in Federation.

In Science we are exploring the structural and behavioural features of different animals. We are finding that these features have specific functions that allow them to adapt and survive in different environments. We are going to be creating our own animal and describe the features that it has as well as explain how it helps them to survive in a particular environment. These will also be in the museum.

Throughout our Art lessons we are exploring types of shelters and their purpose. This will give us some inspiration to be able to either design the shelter for the museum or a shelter for the animal that we have designed.

Fantasy texts are the key focus of our English unit this term. We will need to be able to write the first chapter of our own fantasy novel. To do this we are exploring the language that J. K. Rowling uses in Harry Potter to develop characters, settings and events.

Throughout our maths activities we will be exploring data, area, fractions and using timetables. These skills will also help us when designing our museum exhibits and shelters.

Mrs Mac is very busy teaching us sewing skills that will help us out in Design and Technology. We are hoping to be able to sew a button on when one comes off. Miss Kinsey takes us for Health and P.E. and Mis Struss takes us for Music.
